Gilbertito and Rubén Blades will join Luis “Perico” Ortiz in “Touching and Telling Stories .”

Trumpeter Luis “Perico” Ortiz celebrates his six-decade career with the concert Playing and Telling Stories on January 13 at the Caguas Fine Arts Center, where he will be joined by Gilberto Santa Rosa, La India, Tony Vega, Andy Montañez and others including Rubén Blades.

“This concert is something very special for me. It’s indescribable to hear songs that the audience loved, to remember experiences and to be surrounded by so many friends. “Those who come will take with them a piece of my history and my heart,” Ortiz said.

The composer, arranger, producer and music director has also successfully moved across various musical genres, collaborating with Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaría and Fania All Stars, to name a few.

“This event is part of the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of Bellas Artes de Caguas, a space that has become an important stage for local and international artists and events. We are happy to have such a successful personality as Luis ‘Perico’ Ortiz and accompanied by great fellow musicians, he will perform in this center, which offers the ideal space for the exhibition of his art and for the enjoyment of the public,” commented Ivonne Class, executive director of Fine Arts of Caguas.

Moncho Rivera, Henry Santiago, Manolito Rodríguez, Gerardo Rivas and Norberto Vélez will also be present at the show, which will combine music with anecdotes and screen projections.

The production will feature two new talents: Arianelys Ortiz, a young blind and autistic patient who plays the timpani, while Daniel Torres shines on the trumpet.
