Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced her separation from her husband Andrea Giambruno, who has been criticized for sexist comments.

Old in years.

“We parted ways some time ago and it’s time to recognize that. I will defend what we were, I will defend our friendship and I will defend at all costs a seven year old girl who loves her mother and father in a way that I could not love mine. I can’t say anything more about it,” wrote the conservative prime minister.

According to the Portal agency, Giambruno, presenter of a news program from Mediaset, part of the media group owned by the heirs of the late former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, came under fire because of videos from another channel where he used offensive language, touched his crotch and apparently harassed a colleague . “Why haven’t I met you before?” he asks in the pictures.

Additionally, an audio recording released this week showed Giambruno discussing an extramarital affair and telling colleagues they could work with him if they participated in group sex. In August he had already come under fire for statements that were interpreted as blaming the victim for the consequences of a gang rape.

In her message to X, Meloni criticized those who tried to undermine her politically by exploiting Giambruno’s attitudes. “All those who have hoped to weaken me by hitting me with a personal matter should know that no matter how much the straw hopes to bring the stone to light, the stone remains stone and the straw is only water” , he said.

Giambruno, who did not comment on the matter, will be excluded from his show on Mediaset next week in a mutual decision, the broadcaster reported on Friday (20).
