A 5yearold girl was attacked by a rabid raccoon while waiting in front of her school bus last Friday (2). The case took place in the city of Ashford, Connecticut, in the United States and was captured in a video that went viral on social networks.

Security camera footage from Logan MacNamara’s home, where the attack took place, shows the moment his daughter Rylee is bitten by the animal.

The girl’s mother said she went out to wait for the bus and there was a raccoon on the porch.

The video shows the exact moment when the animal bites the child’s leg. She then tries to get rid of him, who is still holding on as she screams in desperation. Then the mother plucks the raccoon and throws it away.

“I heard her screaming and ran to see what was going on. I thought maybe she slammed her hand on the door, I wasn’t expecting to see a raccoon attacking her,” MacNamara said. “If I didn’t have the video I couldn’t tell you exactly what happened, it all happened so fast.”

She said her daughter Rylee had some stab wounds and they both had scratches. However, the two were not seriously injured.

After the attack, they went to the hospital. MacNamara said the biggest medical concern is the possibility of the animal contracting rabies.

Although they could not find the raccoon to test for rabies, the mother and daughter are vaccinated.
