The company operating the ski lifts in the Marmolada massif of up to 3,343 meters between the northern Italian regions of Trentino and Veneto is worried about the ski season. After the glacier collapsed last July, which claimed the lives of eleven people, the ban on access to the glacier has yet to be lifted.
“Winter Season Threatened”
“The winter season is coming, the ski slopes are safe and need to be prepared in a timely manner. If measures are not taken quickly, the winter season will be at risk and with it the holidays of many families in the region. Every day is precious”, says the cable car operator.
The Marmolada Glacier is the largest of the Dolomites and is located on the northern side of the Marmolada Group. This is in the provinces of Trento and Belluno.
eleven people died
On July 3, eleven people died when a glacier broke up in the Marmolada in Trentino. The mayor of the municipality of Canazei then ordered the expansion of the “red zone”, where entry is no longer allowed. The reason is the possible instability of a rocky niche and the widening of several cracks.
