Glenn Greenwald: CNN’s coverage of the suppression of Hunter Biden on Twitter is evidence that the network remains liberal

Journalist Glenn Greenwald shredded CNN’s coverage of bombshell revelations about Twitter’s efforts to quash the Hunter Biden story in the final weeks of the 2020 presidential election, saying CNN’s “ratings” are evidence the network is embracing its liberal ideology have not filed.

Twitter owner Elon Musk has outsourced his insights to Substack journalist Matt Taibbi, who published a lengthy thread about what had been going on behind the scenes at the social media juggernaut recently bought by the Tesla mogul.

CNN executives were famously caught on a taped conference call informing staff that the New York Post’s bombastic coverage of 2020 would be ignored by the network. The news, which they chose not to report, sheds light on Hunter Biden’s foreign dealings before and after his father, then-Democratic candidate Joe Biden, served as vice president. The complete blackout came before a long-planned merger was completed, bringing CNN under Warner Bros. Discovery’s control.

CNN’s new leadership, led by CEO Chris Licht, has since parted ways with a handful of far-left pundits, and executives insist the network wants to be less divisive.

Elon Musk and Matt Taibbi revealed that "Twitter files" on Friday, a thread revealing internal communications from Twitter staffers and US lawmakers related to the censorship of the NY Post's Hunter Biden laptop story.

However, Greenwald thinks that a CNN report, headlined “Released Twitter Emails Show Staffers Discussing How to Deal With Hunter Biden Story in New York Post 2020,” refutes the notion that that CNN evolved from the liberal network that rose to prominence during the Trump era.

“CNN’s ‘news story’ on Taibbi coverage has to be read to be believed. It reads like the tirades of any #resistancecrazy. Any conservative who thinks CNN changed because they fired some blatant Dems (while keeping @Acosta) is deluding themselves,” Greenwald tweeted, with a link to CNN’s report.

The CNN report downplayed Musk’s revelation, emphasizing that Taibbi tweeted the information rather than Twitter releasing a simple “trove of documents” to the public.

“One of the worst parts of CNN’s article is that it cites the ‘belief’ of Twitter execs and ‘former intelligence officials’ that the Biden documents were ‘a Russian hack-and-leak operation,’ without mentioning that this was… a lie, a lie repeated by CNN. Twitter knew it had no evidence,” Greenwald continued.

Greenwald believes that CNN has “a horde of ‘reporters’ who are identical to DNC agents and #Resistance Fanatics and ‘report’ like them,” he wrote, adding that “it would still be outrageous to recite the lie that the Biden documents could have been Russian” if published as an opinion piece.

FROM THE “SMOOTH CAMPAIGN” TO “RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION”, LIBERAL MEDIA HAVE TURNED UP TO REJECT THE HUNTER BIDEN STORY

“That it’s a ‘news story’ says it all,” Greenwald wrote. “Remember: CNN, just before the 2020 election, kept repeating the lie that the Biden documents were ‘Russian disinformation.’ As usual, they use ex-state security agents: like career liar James Clapper. How can they not mention it was a lie?

CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Finally, in December 2020, recordings of CNN conference calls with the network’s executives before the merger confirmed suspicions that the news organization calculatedly dismissed the story.

“Obviously we’re not going to take the New York Post story to Hunter Biden now,” CNN Political Director David Chalian was heard saying during a conference call Oct. 14, 2020, the same day the Post released its first reports published emails from Hunter Biden.

In the appeal, released by Project Veritas, Chalian later insisted that the report “give its marching orders” to the “right-wing echo chamber about what to speak about today.”
