Global impact of the archivists’ congress in Abu Dhabi stands out

Abu Dhabi, October 10 (Prensa Latina) The holding of the International Council of Archives (ICA) Congress today had very positive impact and comments around the world, said Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of the Emirates Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Speaking at the close of business this Tuesday at the ICA General Assembly at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (Adnec), the senior official highlighted that nearly four thousand people have attended the event so far.

“Today we had a full house, we did it together, without you it would not have been possible,” said the President of the Presidential Court of the United Arab Emirates, warning of the efforts of many present to reach the country.

Regarding the 75th anniversary celebrations of the ICA, he recalled that the last of these congresses was held in Seoul, South Korea, in 2016, a period of seven years marked by a four-year break during which the global archival community was unable to meet due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He warned that many things have happened during this time, such as the emergence of new technologies and the increase in dangers caused by climate change.

The General Assembly was headed by its President Josée Kirps, who thanked the authorities of this Middle Eastern country for their support of the important forum.

The director of the National Archives of Luxembourg also pointed out that the information challenges of the 21st century do not only affect archives and records management professionals, but concern everyone.

He emphasized that the event represents an opportunity to establish direct contacts with key players in the Middle East, at a time of unprecedented interest in the areas of archive management, digital document preservation and public education and outreach programs.

The International Council on Archives is dedicated to promoting the efficient and effective management and use of documents, archives and data in all formats and their preservation as the cultural and evidentiary heritage of humanity.
