GM position: Marc Bergevin among finalists in Calgary?

The Calgary Flames would be in the last step before finally hiring a new general manager, and former Montreal Canadiens architect Marc Bergevin would be one of the finalists for the position.

This was reported by Frank Seravalli from the Daily Faceoff specialist site on Twitter early Friday evening.

Craig Conroy, Dave Nonis and Stan Bowman would be the other three people who would be considered for this job.

At the end of last season, the Calgary team began a purge. First, Brad Treliving and the Flames severed their ties last April. The Alberta organization then fired head coach Darryl Sutter on May 1.

Calgary missed the playoffs by two points last season despite going 38-27-17 with 93 points.

In addition, the Flames would have made a U-turn regarding their ex-DG Treliving.

According to various sources, the Alberta club have prevented the 53-year-old from negotiating with another team before his contract expires on June 30. It seems he now has a clear path to finding a new job.

Treliving, who also served on the Arizona Coyotes’ general staff for seven seasons, could get the call from the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs, who are looking for a new GM.
