DETROIT — General Motors will produce an electrified Chevrolet Corvette next year, followed by an all-electric version of the iconic sports car, GM President Mark Reuss said Monday.

Reuss said the automaker will continue to produce traditional internal combustion engine models alongside the electrified models. He declined to disclose when the all-electric Corvette would launch or if the “electrified” model would be a conventional hybrid or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

“We’re going to have an electrified Corvette next year, so it’s coming very quickly,” Reuss said in an interview with CNBC’s Phil LeBeau on Squawk Box. “This is in addition to all the great performance that Chevrolet and Corvette have been known for with our internal combustion engines for many, many years.”

GM’s endorsement for the electrified Corvettes comes amid mounting Wall Street pressure on older automakers to better compete against EV industry leader Tesla. It also comes a day before GM’s crosstown rival Ford Motor is scheduled to host an event for its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, which has garnered significant attention from investors and the media.

Rumors of an electric Corvette have been circulating for years, including President Joe Biden mentioning it during a commercial last year.

GM has announced plans to sell only electric vehicles by 2035. The company is on track to launch 30 new electric vehicles worldwide by 2025 by investing $35 billion in electric and autonomous vehicles by then.
