Gmail accounts deleted in three months: Who is affected? -CNEWS

Starting December 1st, Google will delete certain Gmail accounts. How can I avoid this and determine which accounts are affected?

This approach began to worry users. In May, Google warned. Some Gmail accounts will be deleted along with all their data starting December 1st. If these accounts are linked to Google Drive, emails, but also documents or Drive documents, the calendar and photos from Google Photos will be lost.

But the good news is that not all accounts are attacked. Here’s everything you need to know to avoid deletion.

“Inactive” accounts for monitoring

This initiative arose from a change in Google’s policy on “inactive” accounts. In other words, those that have not been used for two years. Therefore, primary accounts are not at the top of the list.

Don’t panic from the start. However, what is affected is a secondary account that does not require frequent logins, may have old data stored, or was used to subscribe to newsletters.

Of course, Google does not delete an account without informing the user. The Mountain View company has said it will start with accounts created that have never been used. Unfortunately, once an account has been deleted, it is no longer possible to keep the same username to create a new one. Google therefore demands great vigilance from its users.

However, an account with no activity can be saved by sending a notification to a recovery email address assigned at the time of creation.

Simple solutions to follow

The best way to save your account is to log in at least every two years. Another solution is to associate any subscription to the account to keep it active.

There are other means too. In particular, be sure to use Google Drive, watch YouTube videos, and perform Google searches with your account. Or download an application from the Google Play Store.

Of course, it’s best to check your Gmail account and change it if necessary. This check increases security and could also be a good opportunity to sort certain documents.
