Godzilla Minus One is making a big splash at the box office.
Per Deadline, “Godzilla Minus One” opened with $11 million at the domestic box office. This sets the new record for the largest opening of a foreign film in 2023, surpassing the $10.1 million that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba brought in in March. Since the film’s release began in the last month of the year, it’s unlikely that this record will be dethroned by another film before January. This also follows Godzilla Minus One breaking records with its initial release in Japan, grossing $1.04 billion, or $7.8 million, in its first three days. Of that, $1.2 million came from 49 IMAX theaters, marking the grand opening for a live-action Japanese film in this format.
