Gogglebox's launch date is revealed as the Channel 4 show returns with series 23 after a two-month break

The launch date for Gogglebox's new series will fall back to Friday, February 16, as the country's critics return to give their TV verdicts.

The stars of the show will return to their sofas alongside their family and friends to share their opinions on the biggest and most popular shows of the past week.

The last season of the show ended at the end of last year and they took a break for a few months before the show resumed.

At the end of season 22, it was announced that fan favorite Stephen Lustig-Webb would be leaving the show to pursue other opportunities.

However, after signing up for Dancing On Ice, Stephen unfortunately had to abandon his participation after sustaining an injury during training.

The last series only featured one new family, Elaine and Seb, and it has yet to be announced whether there will be any further changes ahead of season 23.

Gogglebox films the reactions of several families or groups of friends across the UK to the previous week's television.

The show won the BAFTA TV Award for “Reality & Constructed Factual Program” in 2014 and 2022.

Several international versions have also emerged, a spin-off starring children, Gogglesprogs, and a spin-off starring young adults watching online content, Vogglebox.

The news follows the sad announcement that beloved Gogglebox star Pat Webb has died aged 75 after a “long illness”.

Pat, who starred in series 10 to 12 alongside her son Stephen, died this weekend aged 75.

Stephen, who appeared on the show for ten years before leaving in 2023, took to Instagram on Monday and shared a sweet photo of himself with his mother.

He wrote: “Mummy Pat, you were one in a million, took everyone at face value, would share your last fiver with a stranger, the salt of the earth and the absolute center of our world! Rest in peace, Mum.”

The news was also announced on Gogglebox's social media page.

Pat joined Gogglebox after Stephen's ex-partner Chris Steed left the program in 2018.

From 2019 to 2023, Stephen appeared alongside his husband Daniel.

Stephen was one of the series' longest-serving stars, joining at the start of the series in 2013.

The sad news comes after Stephen announced last year that he and Daniel were leaving the show.

Stephen confirmed he would not be returning to Gogglebox after leaving to join Dancing On Ice.

He said at the time: “It's been 10 years and it's time to move on and see what else is out there.”

“We've shot the final scenes of the last series and they've already been shown.” There are a few possibilities in the pipeline but I won't say too much yet.

“If I were approached I would love to do Celeb Bear Grylls – I think I could do really well with that.”

“But the worst part of the experience would be eating things – something like rats would be my nightmare.”

But in a shocking turn of events, Stephen was forced to retire after breaking his left ankle during a training session.

In October last year he was admitted to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, where doctors told him he had broken his left ankle and would be on crutches for at least the next three months.

The TV personality underwent surgery to have metal plates inserted into his ankle for extra support.

Sources close to Stephen said he had “really enjoyed the new challenge” of getting to know judges Torvill and Dean as well as the other celebrity contestants and was “disappointed” to have lost his place in the competition before the show even started.

They said at the time: “Stephen is devastated… he's completely devastated.”

“He loved training but when he put his skates on he broke his ankle and was taken to hospital.

“After two days and an operation to insert metal plates into his left ankle, medics informed him that he had no chance of training again, leaving him no choice but to withdraw from the competition.”

A Dancing On Ice spokesman said: “Stephen Lustig-Webb had to withdraw from the show due to sustaining an ankle injury during training.”

“He is still an integral part of the Dancing On Ice family. We will support Stephen and wish him all the best in his recovery.”
