Watching the Golden Globes this year meant more than just catching a glimpse of the stars or getting an idea of what the Oscars might have in store.
After the ethics, financial and diversity scandal within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association led to the cancellation of the 2022 broadcast, the 2023 Golden Globes were sold and the Hollywood Foreign Press was dissolved. So the looming question seemed to be: What impact would the show have this year under new ownership?
In the end, some things went exactly as expected, others not so much.
“Succession,” which won the most awards on television, presented (along with “Mad Men” and “The Acts” third season in 2020 and 2022. And three of the series' actors, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen, took part Awards to take home.
“The Bear” and “Only Murders in the Building” were each nominated for five awards – “The Bear” received three and “Only Murders” came away empty-handed.
Among films, “Oppenheimer,” which received eight nominations, received five awards, including the top prize in the drama category. Additionally, Cillian Murphy won Best Actor in a Drama, while Christopher Nolan won Best Director.
“Barbie,” which had the most film nominations, ended up with just two awards — but beat “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” in the new “Movies and Box Office” category.
