For the first time in the history of cinema, an actress walked the Golden Globes red carpet with her guide dog on Monday, January 8, 2024. Aria Mia Loberti was visually impaired from birth and was accompanied by Miss Ingrid.

One small step for the Golden Globes, one giant step for inclusivity. On Monday, January 8, 2024, American actress Aria Mia Loberti walked the red carpet of the prestigious ceremony accompanied by her guide dog, Miss Ingrid. A black Labrador who has been helping the blind young woman every day and on every trip since 2017.

Aria Mia Loberti was on hand to defend her role in the Netflix series adaptation of “All The Light We Cannot See,” in which she plays a blind woman. “It's the first time in history that we have an authentic representation of a character in a film of this magnitude,” the 29-year-old actress told Entertainment Tonight on the sidelines of the ceremony.

A series filmed in Brittany

In the series, based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Deorr, winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize, Aria Mia Loberti plays a young blind French woman whose paths cross with a German soldier played by Louis Hofmann. The series, which was largely filmed in Saint-Malo, Brittany, also stars Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie.

This is Aria Mia Loberti's first role behind a camera. Previously, the young graduate student with an atypical career path (due to her eye problems) had never played the slightest role and had not even dared to dream of cinema. “I just didn’t think I could ever become an actress. “I never thought it would be an option because of my personality,” she told Vanity Fair last November.

I just didn't think I could ever become an actress. Because of my personality, I never thought that would be an option.

It was her love for Anthony Deorr's novel that made her go through the casting process and her presence in front of the camera that won her the role.

His faithful companion

During her interview with Vanity Fair, Aria Mia Loberti explained that “if it wasn't for that dog, she probably would never have taken part in this damn audition,” speaking of Miss Ingrid because, as she assures, it is his faithful companion that is enough for him gave me confidence to get started.

Miss Ingrid was also there when Aria Mia Loberti received the call that changed her life: director Shawn Levy told her she had the role. “I remember I was shaking and Ingrid was on my knees because I was crying so much…” she said. I don't really remember much after that. I think I made cookies and ate two dozen! »

Without that dog, I probably never would have gotten that damn audition.

Miss Ingrid's posing on the Golden Globes red carpet was therefore the least of recognition. And the duo isn't done making headlines at the biggest ceremonies, as Aria Mia Loberti is already preparing her next shoot: The actress will star in a new adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles, coming to Disney+ in 2024.
