The Golden Raspberry award for Worst Movie of the Year withdrew Ryan Kiera Armstrong, a 12yearold girl, from the nominations for the Worst Actress Statuette. The awards reversed their decision after facing criticism on social media.
“Sometimes you do things without thinking and then they make it clear to you. Incidentally, this is what the Golden Raspberry was created for,” the award winners said in a statement to the press. In the text, the award explains that it was insensitive to identify the child actress and apologizes to her.
“We would like to apologize for any suffering she may have suffered as a result of our decision,” the statement said.
The award also said it will now adopt a voting guide that will prevent minors from being nominated for its statuettes.
Haunted Hill House and WandaVision actor Julian Hilliard took to his Twitter profile to criticize the award. “The Golden Raspberry has always been cruel and classless, but naming a child is repugnant and wrong. Why put a child at risk of being bullied or worse?
Armstrong was nominated for a Golden Raspberry for her performance in the film Flames of Vengeance, in which she plays a superpowered girl.
