The 56-year-old has already been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the sexual abuse of minors.
However, this sentence will be served at the same time as the previous one, adding only a year to his stay behind bars.
“If he survives to the end of his sentence, he will live to be in his 80s,” pleaded his attorney, who pointed out that his first conviction already meant his client’s life sentence.
The lawsuit was organized around the release of a controversial “sex tape” in which R. Kelly was seen sexually assaulting and urinating on a teenage girl. The survivor, now in her 30s, said R. Kelly forced her to have sex with him more than 100 times. He had also taught her to lie about the nature of their relationship, leading her to deny her role in the video for decades.
“I did everything I could to keep it a secret,” she told the court last August.
The singer was first acquitted in connection with the story in 2008, despite a dozen testimonies confirming the victim’s age.
