Gonzaga star Drew Timm led the Bulldogs to the Sweet 16 after winning Saturday night, using foul language at halftime and after the game.
Timme scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half of Gonzaga’s 82–78 victory over ninth-seeded Memphis in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night in Portland, Oregon.
But it was Timme’s motivation at half-time that helped Gonzaga, who was 10 points behind at half-time, to avoid an unfortunate defeat.
At half-time, the 6-foot-10 young forward gathered his Gonzaga teammates to center court, pointed to a scoreboard showing a 10-point gap from first place overall, and delivered a few select words.
A beefy Timme first gave a censored version of what he said to his teammates at half time.
“I don’t give a damn about what’s going on,” Timme told a TBS reporter after the game, referring to his pep talk at halftime. “What happens at the end of the game, whether we win or lose. We don’t go out like no soft guys. Leave it all on the floor. [Because] it could be your last 20.
“Hey man, if you give it your all and we still lose… play with no regrets. We took it to heart and, fortunately, won. Give Memphis credit, they really brought it to life and the way they’ve changed their season is pretty remarkable.”
However, the 21-year-old couldn’t censor himself throughout the entire interview.
Timme, who was also interviewed by teammate Andrew Nembhard, repeated the expletive a couple of times when asked about the performance of Nembhard, who scored 23 points and several late free throws.
“They were talking all sorts of nonsense about him, and you know what, that’s what we expect from him. He brought us home. He got us shit, man. Okay, boy.
Nembhard appreciated the compliment and didn’t mind the swearing, saying, “Dude, I love that guy.”
