Bars and restaurants have been hit hardest by the coronavirus crisis. Many of them were closed for months and were unable to reopen. A famous pizzeriawith units spread across the entire country, was unfortunately included in the statistics.
Chicago Pizza Factory’s stores in Japan have become very popular in recent years. However, the pandemic directly affected the business accounts and in March this year they filed for bankruptcy in the Asian court as they faced millions in debt.
According to an article in Japan News, the chain operated in multiple cities and had 66 branches across the country. Their approach was to offer different types of pizza, with a focus on Japanese cuisine. But not even the differential could keep it active.
In addition, as stated in the report, the pizzeria’s debts amount to around 1.5 billion yen in local currency it is almost R$50 million. In a statement, they cited high production costs and the drastic decline in sales since 2020.
