Google Down After Data Center Explosion; there are injured Connected World

O Google had a big problem in the early morning hours of Monday (8). The search giant’s data center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, experienced an “electrical incident” likely an explosion leaving three people injured. This also caused the website to be unavailable for a few minutes.

Council Bluffs Fire Department deputy chief Jim Wood said first responders were dispatched to the scene at 11:59 a.m. following a highpriority warning of an “electrical problem”. Initial information on site pointed to a “large explosion”, but Wood did not want to confirm details.

All three victims were taken to Nebraska Medical Center. Two were taken away by ambulance and one seriously injured person was taken away by helicopter. According to Wood, all of the patients were awake and talking after the incident.

The Google complex near Lake Manawa State Park is one of the company’s largest data centers. The centers house hundreds of hightech supercomputers used to store and process a wealth of information.

A Google spokesman provided the following statement to KETV:

“We are aware of an electrical incident that occurred today at the Google data center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, resulting in injuries to three people at the site who are currently being treated. The health and safety of all workers is our top priority and we are working closely with partners and local authorities to thoroughly investigate the situation and provide assistance where needed.”
