The Cuban regime ordered the removal of a sculpture dedicated to the famous American reggaeton artist Tekashi 6ix9ine that decorated the entrance of a bar in the city of Bayamo, Granma province.
Sculptor Genis Osorio Vargas confirmed on Instagram that the work had been dismantled. In statements to Cuba Noticias 360, he added that this happened after a call from the spatial planning office in which an official argued that the sculpture “violates urban planning regulations.”
He also announced that the… controversial work Changes will be made again at the request of the customer who ordered it.
According to Osorio Vargas, the owner of the facility where the sculpture was located did not receive the government's communication with joy; However, he agreed to remove it together with the creators, who had to carefully remove the brick base so as not to damage the rest.
For the sculptor there were “wrong” interpretations of the sculpture, which he wants to complete with the lower part, the singer's feet, and then decide on a new location, possibly within the company.
Genis Osorio, professor of anatomy and graduate of medicine at the Bayamo School of Art, collaborated in the creation of the work with the sculptor Pablo Martínez and the painter Juan Enríquez with the support of Cristian, using the ferrocement technique.

The sculpture was located in the Camilo Cienfuegos neighborhood of Bayamo on behalf of a bar owner in the region, who expressed his admiration for Tekashi 6ix9ine for his actions “on behalf of the Cuban people” last year.
Osorio emphasized that despite possible shortcomings, the rapper showed interest in helping the community, donating money and advocating for those most in need.
“The work is misunderstood, but I say it without further ado… with the pride of the world I defend my sculpture and my colleagues who worked hard to achieve this result.” It is a commission at the request of one Customers, but regardless of how Tekashi 69 is handled in his personal life and his art, whether conceptually poor or not, his aesthetic, artistic and conceptual budgets are pulverized by the capacity Under “Helping others, just giving” he posted a few days ago on his Facebook wall.
“Very few artists do this, and to do it as sustainably as he did, I wish there were a lot of Danis or 6ix9ine. Let us learn from the true essences of life, let us practice the common good,” he explained.
Last year, the New York rapper visited Havana and other regions of the island several times and, as usual on his tours around the world, distributed thousands of dollars to those most in need.
For its part, the regime, despite everything indicating that it has benefited from the musician's dollars, found the narrative around it so uncomfortable that it has dedicated several articles to him in the official press, ranging from the most scathing criticism to the… concealment.
