This is the decision of the Parole Board of Canada, which even denied him the right to parole in a transitional house.

The child’s grandmother, mother of the 34-year-old man, was called by a PBC spokesman at around 9am this morning to inform her of the decision and was then given written confirmation.

She was still waiting for a copy of the decision with reasons when TVA Nouvelles spoke to her.

She said she was relieved by the decision.

She and her relatives are convinced that the father of the family has no sincere remorse for the tragic events.

They also live with the fear of crossing his path should he find any form of freedom.

“To hear him speak during the hearing, it’s like nothing is his fault. He doesn’t seem to realize his mistakes and responsibilities, even though he was the one who made the decision to wrap my granddaughter in duct tape to stop her running away from home. I know how manipulative he is and I’m glad to know the commissioners saw through his game. He has to serve the four years in prison he was sentenced to, period!” mentioned the grandmother.

Last Thursday, she mentioned before Canada’s parole board that a release that quick would send the message that having a child isn’t that important.

The 34-year-old, who pleaded guilty to coercive detention, is currently serving a four-year sentence.

While the father admitted what he had done was wrong, he repeatedly told the commissioners that he was still unable to explain the actions he took before his death when he found the body of his 7-year-old daughter wrapped in duct tape at night.

“I never thought I could captivate him like that […] I acted out of emotions, irrationally […] I have no excuses, it’s not happening, I’m aware of it,” the man said.

According to him, the girl had health and behavioral problems, he hardly slept and had trouble thinking clearly.

He acknowledged the emotional dependency he felt at the time on his ex-partner, to whom he felt indebted for helping him regain custody of his children.

“I’m trying to understand what brought me here […] I have relied too much on my partner […] I couldn’t see any more solutions,” he added.

His 39-year-old ex-spouse, who covered the child’s mouth with tape to stop her from crying, was found guilty of first-degree murder of the girl in December 2021.

She was sentenced to life imprisonment without possibility of parole for 13 years.

The father’s case management team offered a day of probation in a temporary home in Longueuil with a curfew.

According to the grandmother, her son has to wait six months before he can apply again.
