The American Michael Gardner, 62, accidentally shot his own grandson last Saturday (30) while celebrating a wedding in the state of Nebraska (USA).

Gardner, a justice of the peace, fired a shot into the air to attract the attention of guests scattered around the ballroom one of the groomsmen forgot his wedding rings, which would have delayed the ceremony.

The bullet hit the shoulder of the 12yearold boy, whose identity was not released. According to the police, the accident was not serious because the revolver was loaded with blank cartridges.

“When he decided to arm the revolver, he stumbled and shot his grandson in the left shoulder, resulting in an injury,” Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Houchin said during a news conference Monday. The boy had to be taken to hospital.

“We don’t believe Michael intended to hurt his grandson, but the act wasn’t very smart,” Houchin said.

Gardner was also charged with child abuse for his negligence and the young man’s injuries, the deputy sheriff said. He turned himself in to authorities on Monday. “It’s kind of negligent to pull out a gun with blank cartridges and shoot people,” the officer said.
