On Tuesday afternoon, airline officials found a little girl, eight years old according to local press, crying and asking about her parents in a terminal at the massive George Bush International Airport.

The Spanish-speaking child explained that her grandmother, who was taking care of her, left her there and went to get her plane.

“According to the child, her parents had left the airport to pick up their daughter’s passport, which they had forgotten,” Houston Airports communications director Augusto Bernal told AFP.

“The little girl was left alone in the terminal building,” he added, without specifying if the child and her grandmother would be traveling together.

The child’s parents could be contacted based on the information they provided and returned to pick him up.

The grandmother, who boarded the plane, was disembarked from the plane by airport officials and taken into custody, Bernal said.
