Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League: 19-year-old hockey player dies on ice

A 19-year-old ice hockey player died Tuesday during a game in North Dumfries, Ontario.

Ayr Centennials captain Eli Palfreyman died during a tournament held before the start of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) regular season. The causes of death were not disclosed.

“The Centennials organization and the community of Ayr are in mourning,” the team said in a statement to media. Eli received the best care from our medical staff and a quick response from the paramedics. Doctors will have more answers for us in the coming days.”

Palfreyman was scheduled to start a second season in the Centennials and a fourth in the GOJHL. The circuit has also postponed all exhibition matches that were due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
