Year after year, the government of USA runs the well-known and popular Visa Lottery or Diversity Immigrant Visa Program administered by the Department of State to provide a new category of immigrants called Diversification Immigrants.
Why can’t all countries participate in the visa lottery?
It should be noted that the law provides for 55,000 permanent resident visas annually for all those who are allowed to attend.
However, not all countries can participate as the United States has restricted this raffle to certain high immigration countries.
Visas are only allocated in six geographic regions, with the largest number allocated to regions with the lowest immigration rates to the United States, and no visas to citizens of countries that have sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the past five years . In addition, no country may receive more than 7% of the available visas for diversity in a year.
Around seven million people applied to join the program, but only 50,000 of them became Green Card believers through the lottery.
When will the registration for the 2025 visa be drawn?
People who wanted to enter the 2024 visa raffle could only do so until November 8, 2022. However, it turns out that the 2025 tender will open sometime in 2023.
The United States government reminds that there is no fee to participate in the annual diversity visa program and warns that you must be wary of fraudulent websites pretending to be official State Department sites.
Which countries cannot apply for the visa lottery?
This modality is intended for residents of countries with a low rate of immigration to the United States. Therefore, the following countries are not eligible to participate in the annual drawing for North American Territory visas.
