Greenland is not switching to winter for the first time

In the future, daylight saving time will be applied permanently in Greenland. The country wants to get one hour closer to Denmark and the rest of Europe.

In Greenland, this time the clocks will not be set back to winter time. The government in the capital Nuuk announced that the country would move to a new time zone. Greenlanders want to get one hour closer to Denmark and the rest of Europe, so the time difference between Austria and Greenland will be just three hours, instead of four, from Sunday. Greenland is officially part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but is largely autonomous.

According to Danish news agency Ritzau, the Greenlandic government agreed in November 2022 to abolish summer and winter time on the island. In the future, the UTC-2 time zone will apply year-round. According to government information, clocks should only be set back on weekends in the small town of Ittoqqortoormiit in eastern Greenland, which will not adjust to the new time zone until March 2024.

Daylight saving time ends in Austria on Sunday. On October 29th, hands in Europe will return to standard time, from 3:00 am to 2:00 am. (APA/dpa)
