GreenWoodz Presents “TPL”: “Emo” Rap to Cure the Region’s Blues

The now 23-year-old rapper GreenWoodz is happy to have dedicated himself entirely to his music instead of continuing to ” Damn » in his small home village.

“Where I come from, unless you are an athlete or an intellectual, you will inevitably drink alcohol,” claims GreenWoodz, who grew up in Mandeville, a village of around 2,300 people in Lanaudière. “I didn’t want to live this life any longer; I wanted to concentrate on my music. »

On his first album titled TPL, Dosques protégé 7ième Ciel offers an emo rap style reminiscent of the late Lil Peep. With a voice similar to Blink-182’s vocalists and production from names like Ruffsound and Kable Beatz, GreenWoodz unashamedly explores his struggles with consumerism and mental health.

“This album tells the story of the last five to eight years of my life; I am approaching a relationship that has completely broken me and in which there was a lot of consumption,” mentions GreenWoodz in an interview with Le Journal. “These are problems that are still part of my reality, but I think it is important to make people aware of this type of problem,” adds the 23-year-old artist, who also tells a friend who has his own problem has made a poignant tribute to life, entitled Tommy.

Big brothers in gold

Tommy Boisvert, his real name, was a packer at the IGA in Saint-Félix-de-Valois when he noticed that people were starting to pay attention to his music.

“I was playing on my phone between two packs [au IGA] “When I saw that Ruffsound and Kable Beatz were subscribed to my social networks,” he remembers with a laugh.

The two producers, who have worked with artists like Dua Lipa, Loud and Coeur de Pirate, only needed a few conversations with GreenWoodz before deciding to push his music forward.

“Before they arrived, we did this for fun without making it seem too tidy,” notes GreenWoodz. “Ruff and Kable Beatz brought the professionalism and expertise to create a project that had a real mission,” says the man, who also works with long-time friend Cook Da Beatz.

TPL, GreenWoodz’s first album, is an open and deep project in which we can hear the artist’s rock and emocore inspirations, all spread over a distinctive rap background.

The launch show for this project, released on September 22nd, will take place on October 5th at Newspeak in Montreal. GreeWoodz will also perform with Aswell at L’ANTI Bar & Spectacles in Quebec on October 14th.
