Gregory Itzin, best known for his role as President Charles Logan on the series 24, has died. He was 74.
Jon Cassar, executive producer and director of the popular Fox series, confirmed the news in a tweet on Friday morning.
“My friend Greg Itzin passed away today. He was one of the most talented actors I’ve had the privilege of working with, but beyond that he was an all-round great guy,” Cassar wrote.
“He will be missed by his 24-year-old family, who had nothing but love and respect for him. You’ve made a name for yourself, now rest in peace friend,” the filmmaker continued.
His cause of death has yet to be determined.
While the veteran actor has appeared in a number of television shows and films, his biggest role came on ’24’ as the evil politician Charles Logan. His character is initially Vice President and then becomes Commander in Chief when the President is injured in a terrorist attack.
Of his work on the show, Itzin told The Post in 2006, “As an actor who longs to be loved and recognized, I find that very satisfying.”
His “Covert Affairs” co-star Sendhil Ramamurthy expressed his sadness at the announcement of his death today. Write on Twitter: “Nooooooo. An absolute professional and all around lovable man. Terrible news. Such a pleasure working with you Greg. Sending love to his family. REST IN PEACE #Covered affairs”

His “Nutt House” actress Molly Hagan also expressed her condolences. “The great actor Gregory Itzin has passed away. My heart goes out to Judie and his children. Funny, friendly, extraordinarily talented and a real person. I first met Greg when he played the hilariously obsequious assistant manager in THE NUTT HOUSE. I will never forget our time together.” She posted on social media.
The character actor’s impressive resume also includes roles on the TV shows The Mentalist, Hannah Montana, Mob City, NCIS, Judging Amy, Friends, and several Star Trek series.
He received two Emmy nominations, Supporting Actor in a Drama and Guest Star in a Drama, for his role in 24, in which he starred from 2005 to 2010.
