Gregory Itzin, the actor who played a hapless Vice President and eventual leader of the free world on the Fox hit series 24, has died at the age of 74.

News of Itzin’s death appeared to have been first shared by his former producer, 24, Jon Cassar, who shared a tribute to his friend on Twitter early Friday.

“My friend Greg Itzin passed away today. He was one of the most talented actors I’ve had the privilege of working with, but beyond that he was an all-round great guy,” Cassar wrote.

“I have the hairline and my posture is mediocre,” he joked to the New York Times in 2006.
