Greta Gerwig surprises audiences at the Alamo Drafthouse in New York City ahead of a screening of Barbie… after the film broke box office records over Barbenheimer weekend
Greta Gerwig surprised the audience during a Barbie screening held at the Alamo Drafthouse theater in New York City on Friday night.
In a series of photos shared on the theater chain’s Instagram account, the 39-year-old filmmaker made the most of her time at the outing and was seen speaking to the crowd that had gathered to watch her film.
Her surprise visit comes after Barbie and her main competitor, Christopher Nolan’s dark biographical drama Oppenheimer, managed to break multiple box office records in their so-called “Barbenheimer” opening weekend.
The filmmaker, who recently announced she gave birth to her second child earlier this year, wore a blue denim jumpsuit during the screening.
Gerwig also carried a shoulder bag and a white cap with the logo of her newly released film.
The Lady Bird director’s gorgeous blonde hair went well with the dominant tone of her outfit.

The film was also a huge hit with audiences, and according to Box Office Mojo, the project has grossed $70.5 million since its release.
Gerwig opened up about Barbie during an interview with IndieWire and discussed the film’s meta-comedy focus.
“I think it was definitely something that in the script that was so wild and anarchic, there was a general feeling like nobody’s going to let us do that,” she said.
She added, “I mostly gave it credit to Margot, who, all along as a producer and actress, has been standing in front of it and saying, ‘This is what I want to do and let’s figure out how to do it.’ And shockingly, they just went with it.’
