In a meeting started by the SPÖ this Monday afternoon, energy spokespeople from the parliamentary benches discussed proposals to contain energy prices. As SPÖ vice president Jörg Leichtfried later reported to the APA, the negotiations were “very constructive”. All factions said they want to continue negotiations to find solutions.
All those involved agreed that “something has to happen” to ensure the company’s location and be able to combat people’s concerns, according to the head of SPÖ Viezklub. Leichtfried and energy spokesperson Alois Schroll campaigned at the meeting for the SPÖ model for lower gas prices. A corresponding proposed resolution will be presented at the next session of the National Council.
In it, the SPÖ calls on the government to work at European level for the rapid introduction of a supported gas price of a maximum of 50 euros per megawatt hour. At the same time, preparations for a supported gas price at this level must also be made at the national level. It remained the case that the motion for a resolution would now be tabled and referred to the Committee on Economic Affairs. Before that, there will be a next round of negotiations, Leichtfried said.
