The Minister of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil, Sônia Guajajara, performed together with the singer Anitta at the Global Citizen Festival in New York (USA). The event is organized by a nonprofit organization of the same name that aims to combat extreme poverty.
Anitta will perform at the event alongside international artists such as the band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The shows are free and take place in Central Park.

“We are here for a very important reason. The Amazon is so important to the planet. It offers so much life for so many species. It is crucial for sequestering carbon from the atmosphere, which is crucial to combating climate change,” the singer said during the performance.
Speaking at the event, the minister said that saving the earth would be possible only if the responsibility was shared with rich countries. “It is not fair that the people who have contributed the least to climate change are the ones most affected by it. A key part of this shared responsibility is to enable communityled solutions for climate and nature,” he said.
In a video posted on social media, Anitta can be heard inviting the minister to dinner. The Secretary of State for the Indigenous Peoples of Pará, Puyr Tembé, can also be seen in the pictures. The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho (MDB), will also take part in the event.
