The James Gunn Marvel Studios title is discovered $47M-$48M today, including $17.5 million in previews, for what will hopefully be a 110 million dollars Start at 4,450 cinemas. An analyst tells us that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 looks a lot like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Both films grossed around $37 million in advance sales, with the latter debuting at $106.1 million (which was a franchise record) Friday through Sunday.
Though the 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 made $17 million in previews, then a $56 million Friday for a $146.5 million domestic opening (the highest in the series), GOTG3 is another beast.
Great exits from last night as we told you, but there is a feeling that something might be slowing down the Wardens.
Social media analytics company RelishMix observed that there was mixed chatter on social media about the latest Guardians film.
“Some of those on social media are criticizing the trailer as the ‘worst cut trailer’ in MCU history, while questioning the use of a boring performance in place of the Bee Gees for the soundtrack, calling it fake,” says RelishMix in her latest report.
But then there’s an optimistic vibe that’s exclaiming that the GOTG franchises are “the best Marvel movies,” with some unwilling to see them i.e. “‘I wish it didn’t end yet, my heart sinks when i know this is the end it was a fun ride! Thank you and we love the soundtracks!” and “Glad to finally see a Marvel movie that I really want to see in theaters. After all the junk we’ve had lately, it’ll be nice to see something worth seeing!’”
As for social media reach, it’s huge as the Threequel has 704 million views on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, similar to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (717.8 million social media universe / $187 million opening) and higher than Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (669 million social media universe / $177.3 million opening). The viral reposting rate is huge at 42:1 for GOTG3.
GOTG3 had a huge boost in its social media performance with a pre-game Super Bowl commercial that garnered 134.1 million views on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok combined, overtaking Warner Bros. Universal’s Flash and FastX in post-game traffic as measured by RelishMix.
RelishMix adds, “GOTG3 cast activation levels are exceptional with a total impact of 349.9 million including social icon Vin Diesel at 200.4 million, Chris Pratt at 61.9 million, Dave Bautista at 17.1 million, Zoe Saldana at 16.6 million, Maria Bakalova at 460,000 plus director James Gunn at 4.6M.”
