Guatemala City, November 26 (Prensa Latina) The National Civil Police (PNC) of Guatemala today arrested 19 people linked to drug trafficking, including three with extradition requests to the United States, as well as agents of the agency itself and the Navy.
The operation was carried out by the Drug Crimes Prosecutor’s Office and carried out 35 raids in the department of Retalhuleu, Alta Verapaz and this capital.
The armed forces arrested Jorge Luis Rodríguez, alias Mosco, 36 years old; Magner López, (Mapa or Magner), 45; and Pedro Pablo Yaser Barrios (Pepe), 48 years old.
All are wanted by a Texas Court, Western District, for the crime of conspiracy to manufacture or distribute five kilograms or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine.
The three must appear before one of the two specialized courts to decide on extradition requests.
You must choose to accept it and go to the northern country or deny the facts and start a legal process that could last months or even years.
The process to expand the ongoing investigation also resulted in two Pacific Naval Command ensigns, an inspector and two PNC agents, two doctors, among others, being behind bars.
As of October last year, coordinated forces in that country executed arrest warrants against 15 citizens requested to be extradited by the United States.
According to official calculations, 80 percent of South American drugs entering the United States travel through Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
Analysts warn that drug trafficking networks in this country are currently managed by local actors who control certain areas with the complicity or involvement of officials, police and military.
