A groom was accidentally shot dead on the eve of his wedding in Jordan. The accident was caused by a guest armed with a rifle who was dancing and shooting in the air during the wedding reception the evening before the ceremony. The shots accidentally hit the groom, Hamza Sattam Hamed AlFanatsa, 20, in the chest.
AlFanatsa was rushed to a hospital in the region but succumbed to his injuries. According to the website Jordan News, the tragedy occurred last month.
Security official Amer AlSartawi said the guest was arrested and the weapon was confiscated. The bride was reportedly at a beauty salon when she received the devastating news. Their wedding was to take place the next day.
Celebrating by shooting into the air is so common and dangerous that Jordanian authorities have banned the practice. Firing a weapon in celebration is now a crime and can be punished with a prison sentence of up to three months and a fine of the equivalent of R$6,700.
According to the Jordanian press, the tragedy occurred shortly after a man was arrested in the country for firing a gun loaded with bullets to celebrate his son’s good school grades. There were no injuries and the man was held for a month.
