A Wisconsin woman was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday of “betraying” her friend by fatally poisoning her water with eye drops in order to steal more than $290,000.

[Ce verdict] is a step toward closure for everyone grieving Lynn [Hernan]. “The defendant betrayed Lynn out of greed,” Assistant District Attorney Abbey Nickolie said after the jury announced its verdict Tuesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
After deliberating for seven hours, jurors found Jessy Kurczewski, 39, guilty of the robbery and first-degree murder of her friend Lynn Hernan, 62, who she allegedly poisoned with eye drops in 2018 before draining her bank account of $290,000. Dollar emptied, according to local media.
The defendant, for her part, defended herself by saying that the sixty-year-old was suicidal and had herself consumed eye drops containing vodka, reported the “Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.”
The victim was also found lifeless in his Pewaukee apartment in October 2018, surrounded by pill bottles.
However, although the coroner found numerous traces of drugs in his body, he concluded that the death was due to poisoning, thus pointing to murder.
Kurczewski faces a life sentence for murder, while the other two theft charges could each bring him a maximum prison sentence of five years. She was due to receive her sentence on December 7th.
