A former amateur boxer from Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean was found Tuesday guilty of sexually assaulting and assaulting a former spouse whom he punched “seven or eight times” in the two weeks they lived together.
Jérémy Paul-Germain was found guilty in a Quebec court of sexual assault, triple assault, death threats and molestation in a domestic violence count.
The crimes he is accused of occurred during the short time he lived with his ex-wife. During those two weeks, the man from the community of Mashteuiatsh in Lac-Saint-Jean created a climate of fear by repeatedly hitting his victim, fueled by his unhealthy jealousy.

“Violent acts occur about every two days,” Judge Thomas Jacques said of the facts presented in the indictment on Tuesday. “He still has a reason to be mad at her and beat her up.”
sexual assault
Judge Jacques concluded in his decision that Paul-Germain twice even went so far as to sexually abuse his wife, thereby agreeing with the applicant’s testimony, which he described as “credible and sincere”.
The latter told the court that after two violent episodes in which the defendant hit her, he came back to her to ask for sex.

In both cases, she refuses, saying she has “no taste”. In both cases, Jérémy Paul-Germain simply replies, “Well, yes,” before entering them.
“She doesn’t add anything anymore for fear he’ll hit her,” added the judge, who said he was “in disbelief” at the defendant’s responses when confronted with the idea of consent.
“I would never do that […]even though I know I brewed it a little,” the defendant had explained during the trial, before insisting on the meaning of loyalty and fidelity.
car getaway
Finally, under Paul-Germain’s control, the victim took advantage of a rare moment of inattention on the part of the suspect to flee.
While they were in the car and the man entered the SAQ to buy wine, the woman “worked up all her courage,” Judge Jacques noted, to get behind the wheel of the vehicle and flee. On her way to her mother’s house, she uses Paul-Germain’s phone to call 911, since he had the victim’s phone with him at all times to monitor usage.
She was met by the police and immediately taken to the hospital to be treated for severe bruising from the beating of the man, who was once an amateur boxer.
“Police were amazed at the size and color of the bruises,” the judge recalled in his decision.
Ex-foal by Stéphane Ouellet
Jérémy Paul-Germain had a brief amateur boxing career in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean when he was discovered by boxer Stéphane Ouellet, who took him under his wing.

In an interview with Le Quotidien newspaper in 2015, Ouellet claimed to be “dazzled” by the pugilist’s punching power, but noted he lacked “about 20% of attitude.”
“I won’t let him go, but he can’t let me go either. […] “If you want to lose yourself, you lose yourself,” warned the former boxer, once nicknamed “The Poet,” of the one now jailed during procedures.
Jérémy Paul-Germain’s case will be heard again in court next week to set a sentencing date. Crown prosecutor Laura Plamondon-Dufour has already informed the court that she is considering filing an application for the defendant to be recognized as a long-term offender given his background in similar matters.
