28 September Trial in Guinea Moussa Dadis Camara losing patience

Guinea: A video of the escape of Moussa Dadis Camara and his fellow prisoners leaked on the Internet

Claude Pivi is still on the run in Guinea. The former colonel escaped from Conakry prison last Saturday. His fellow prisoners, including former President Moussa Dadis Camara, were also taken from their cells before being caught by police. Since Friday morning, images from a surveillance camera at the central building have been leaked on social networks. They show how the commando that freed the prisoners managed to enter the prison grounds.

The video appears to have been taken at the central prison itself as it shows screens broadcasting images from a surveillance camera installed at the prison’s entrance. The date November 4, 2023 and the time 4:38 a.m. correspond to the night of the alleged escape of Claude Pivi and his fellow prisoners.

The video shows a strong man Calmly approach the prison gate before subduing the only police officer visible in the video, who appeared to be standing guard unarmed. The suspect is quickly joined by a first group of uniformed people with weapons in hand, who place the police officer face down on the ground before searching his official pickup truck. A second group appears, bags on their backs and in civilian clothes, which they exchange for police uniforms.

Disturbing lightness

Above all, the five-minute video shows the disturbing ease with which the commandos were able to enter the prison grounds.

The day before, before the broadcast of this video, the Minister of Justice Alphonse Charles Wright described on the Guinean channel Évasion TV the circumstances of the escape, which correspond perfectly to the images from the surveillance camera.

He assumes that the entire operation was prepared with the participation of the police officer in the video, but also the prison guards, whom the minister accuses of “sabotage of the prison’s cameras.” In particular, he accuses them of sabotaging 52 of the 60 surveillance cameras that cover the central building.
