In a rare public appearance, Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price spoke out against the federal government’s new bill aimed at increasing gun control.
Posted at 3:53pm
“I love my family, I love my country and I care about my neighbors,” Carey Price said in an Instagram post late Saturday morning. “I’m not a criminal or a threat to society,” he adds. That [le premier ministre Justin Trudeau] it’s unfair to try. »
The hockey player attached a photo of himself in camouflage, holding a hunting weapon, to his post.
The Guardian also said it supports the Canadian Coalition for Gun Rights. This organization has caused controversy in recent days because, until recently, it had been offering discounts thanks to the promotional code “Poly”, which referred to the 1989 Polytechnique de Montréal massacre that killed 14 people, all of them women.
“I have a bit of heartache,” commented Nathalie Provost, survivor of the massacre, on Friday.
A gesture supported by the Conservative Party
Carey Price’s publication quickly garnered support from Conservatives opposed to the law. “Carey is absolutely right,” tweeted Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC). “Hunting is a great Canadian tradition. Trudeau’s attempts to ban shotguns are an attack on rural and indigenous people. »
A vision shared by Pierre Paul-Hus, political lieutenant of the PCC in Quebec. “Carey Price makes a remarkable outing against the senseless politics of Justin Trudeau hunting hunters,” he wrote on Twitter.
Keep in mind that the Liberal government these days is trying to get the C-21 bill passed, which aims to restrict access to firearms in Canada.
The gun lobby finds a law that goes too far
The Gun Rights Coalition this week called on Justin Trudeau’s government to back down, saying it was the “biggest gun ban in Canadian history.”
Under the latest specifications added for the definition of prohibited firearms, semi-automatic firearms, including shotguns, whose magazine can be modified to hold more than five rounds are prohibited, as are those firing projectiles with a muzzle energy greater than than can shoot 10,000 joules and those with an inner barrel surface of 20 millimeters or more.
SKS rifles, a military-style weapon popular with hunters, could be banned, according to the Canadian Coalition for Gun Rights.
Not the first time Carey Price has spoken out
This isn’t the first time Carey Price has made a controversial public outing about hunting. In 2012, according to SportsNet, a photo posted to Twitter of him and another hunter holding a coyote carcass caused a reaction.
This time, some netizens applauded his Instagram post while others protested.
