“The humanitarian system in Gaza is on the verge of total collapse with unimaginable consequences for more than 2 million civilians.” This is the alarm message from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who emphasizes that “the United Nations is not in the situation given the desperate and dramatic situation “We will be able to continue to provide assistance in Gaza without an immediate and fundamental change in the way aid is sent.” “Everyone must assume their own responsibility,” he added. “This is the moment of truth, history judges us all.”
The UN Secretary-General then recalled that before the start of hostilities “about 500 trucks per day were entering the Gaza Strip, in recent days the average has been only 12, although the needs are much greater.” Additionally, “the incoming shipments do not include fuel for UN operations, which is also essential for running hospitals, water desalination plants, food production and aid distribution.”
