After the authentication icon was removed from his account, Guy A. Lepage made the decision to disconnect from Twitter.
In a letter posted to his account Thursday afternoon, the Everyone talks about it host wrote: “It’s time for me to leave Twitter as Mr. Rocket (Elon Musk) just removed my Ti-Hook .”
The comedian-actor then addressed the incongruity of having to pay from now on to benefit from this authentication offered to everyone.
He also took the time to thank his “nice subscribers” with whom he’s chatted over the past few years, as well as those others who are “friendly or muscular crossed in exchange.”
“I know I’m leaving you with the scum of society. I’m sorry for you. But nothing obliges you to stay there,” he concluded. The host clarified that he will keep it visible on his page until Thursday evening so that people can take photos of his post.
Earlier this week, Radio-Canada and CBC announced the suspension of their activities on Twitter after they were seen posting the label “government-funded media.”
The Global Task Force for Public Media recalled on Thursday that the independence of the four public broadcasters that received the label without warning (Radio-Canada, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Korean Broadcasting System and Radio New Zealand) “were guaranteed by the was protected by law and framed by their editorial guidelines.
