On April 22, 2022, all of Quebec mourned Guy Lafleur. This provincial upheaval, however, would serve as a spark plug for the new show that Cirque du Soleil will be presenting in Trois-Rivières this month. With Guy! Guy! Guy!we wanted to celebrate the legend Guy Lafleur in a show set up like a hockey game.

The Cirque du Soleil Tribute Series, launched in 2015 at the Cogeco Amphitheater in Trois-Rivières, previously only celebrated musicians such as Beau Dommage, Robert Charlebois and Les Cowboys Fringants. But for years to come, both the cirque and amphitheater wanted to pave the way for Quebec figures from other fields.
Guy Lafleur’s death came as “a shock to Quebec,” acknowledges Marie-Josée Adam, vice president and general manager of Cirque Events and Experiences. More importantly, it showed Cirque how well the Blonde Demon would fit into the new Summer 2023 tribute show.
“As Guy Lafleur is the icon of Quebecers and has shaped everyone, it was an opportunity not to be missed for us,” said Ms. Adam.
The third part of a trilogy
“I don’t know if there is an athlete who has shaped Quebec history like Guy Lafleur,” said creative director Daniel Ross. We see it a bit like the third part of a trilogy. We had Maurice Richard closely associated with our awakening in Quebec. Next came Jean Béliveau, a gentleman and proof that we could be ourselves and grow strong. After that there was Guy, a guy from Thurso, a normal young man who had close ties to the people of Quebec and was a winner.
