  • Gwyneth Paltrow had problems with cameras aimed at her during a trial over a skiing accident in 2016.
  • Her attorney complained to the Utah court about the camera, saying it violated “court etiquette.”
  • The actress may have to pay 76-year-old Terry Sanderson $300,000 in damages.

Gwyneth Paltrow was offended when a camera was pointed at her during a trial in Utah on Wednesday, where she is fighting allegations of seriously injuring a man in a skiing accident.

The trial will determine whether the actress is responsible for injuring Terry Sanderson, 76, in a 2016 skiing accident at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort. Sanderson said the accident left him with broken ribs and permanent brain damage, according to court records. Sanderson is suing Paltrow for $300,000.

On the second day of the hearing on Wednesday, Paltrow’s attorney Steve Owens complained in court that a “new camera was pointed directly at Paltrow.” Owens said the placement of the camera violated a court decency order.

At this point, the ‘Shakespeare in Love’ actress took off her gold-rimmed glasses and shook her head while staring straight into such a camera with a displeased expression on her face.

Owens added, “This was a problem, for example, when reporters stood in front of my client’s car yesterday and held cameras in her face, just inches away.”

“I’m pissed,” Owens later added. “I want them to comply,” he said, referring to the media present in the courtroom.

Cameras are a common facility in high-profile court cases. At Johnny Depp’s trial of his ex-wife Amber Heard, cameras documented key moments of the trial, some of which went viral on social media.

Sanderson, 76, has accused Paltrow of hitting him from behind on the slopes of the Utah ski resort. Sanderson’s attorney, Lawrence Buhler, said Paltrow “disappeared” from the scene of the accident, which Paltrow denies.

Sanderson, a retired optometrist, initially sued Paltrow for $3.1 million in 2019 but later reduced the number to $300,000, per CNN. Paltrow countered that Sanderson was negligent and accused him of bumping into her. She is demanding $1 in damages.

Paltrow and Sanderson’s attorneys did not immediately respond to insider requests for comment after regular business hours.
