Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison early Thursday morning, KSHB News confirms. Blanchard served seven years following her conviction for the second-degree murder of her mother Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard in 2015. Gypsy Rose and her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn conspired to kill her mother in order to escape her control, as her mother suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, an illness in which a caregiver seeks compassion in caring for someone whose children have invented illnesses. The mental disorder made Gypsy Rose believe that when healthy, she suffered from various diseases such as cancer. Gypsy Rose claimed she was the one who “persuaded” Godejohn to commit the crime. The Blanchard's story has been the subject of several news documentaries as well as Hulu's The Act, a fictional retelling of what led to Dee Dee's murder. Now she stars in the upcoming Lifetime docuseries The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, which explores her childhood abuse and her current love life as she married her husband Ryan in prison. Gypsy Rose posted her “first selfie of freedom” on Instagram on Friday. At the time of publication it was 2.2. Millions of followers. Commenters offered suggestions about what pop culture she should read up on now that she's free. “I think you would love Ice Spice and Flo Milli,” one commenter wrote. “Also, Betty White died, Bandz have been discontinued.”
