Hacker attack on IPTV telecommunications signals: Five people arrested in Quebec

The Sûreté du Québec on Tuesday morning put an end to the activities of two illegal companies that had offered services to hijack the signals of the province's largest telecommunications companies.

“A world of possibilities with the Arubox TV internet television solution. All channels, all films and series, an unparalleled price,” we can read on the website of the company AruboxTV, one of the companies affected by the police operation of the Office for the Confiscation of Criminal Assets of the Sûreté du Québec.

The other target company is StockerIPTV.

In total, police handcuffed five people in the parishes of Saint-Eustache, Gatineau, Longueuil and Brownsburg-Chatham.

The Sûreté du Québec believes that the suspects stole telecommunications services, committed fraud and laundered the proceeds of crime.

The two companies targeted by police are said to have sold terminals that enabled the fraudulent acquisition of telecommunications services from various companies such as Videotron, Bell and Rogers.

“It is important to clarify that people who are or were subscribers and who are or would have been in possession of a terminal from one of these companies (Decoderbox of the Formuler brand or another) are not affected by the “ongoing criminal investigation,” stressed the Sûreté du Québec in a press release.

According to authorities, additional arrests could be made as part of this investigation in the coming weeks.

Subscribers who have done business with these two companies are asked to return their terminal to an official Quebec Electronic Products Recycling Program drop-off point.
