Damn: Netflix is bringing Hades to its gaming service in 2024.
Hades is an isometric roguelike-style dungeon crawler in which you play as the really hot Zagreus, Prince of Tartarus and son of Hades, who is trying to escape his father’s domain to enter the mortal world and his to find mother. Before each attempt to escape Hell, you choose one of several different weapons, and throughout the journey the gods of Olympus offer you blessings to help you on your way. If Zagreus dies in the attempt (and he will), he shows up at the beginning – as Prince of Hell and all – and begins his jailbreak all over again.
This is just a general overview and does not help convey all the charm that Supergiant has put into this game. Over time, Zagreus builds relationships with his friends and family that deepen each time he returns to Hell, leading to some truly beautiful, heartbreaking and funny moments.
The game, which appeared in Early Access on PC back in 2018, was officially released in 2020 (when it should have been named Game of the Year, a fact I’ll never be upset about), and developer Supergiant recently released a Sequel announced in 2022. But The Game only came to mobile devices on Netflix.
Unfortunately the game only launches on iOS. But even though Android users are left out in the cold, it’s really good that more people have the opportunity to play this phenomenal (and completely robbed!) game.
