Hailey Bieber on Friday marked the one-year milestone of surviving her mini-stroke by reposting a video from last year detailing her “life-changing event.”
The 26-year-old supermodel – who was recently heckled when her husband Justin Bieber made a surprise appearance on Rolling Loud – wrote on her Instagram about the horrifying incident and being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.
Hailey went on to share some information about the condition called Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), which the Mayo Clinic says is “a hole in the heart that doesn’t close after birth.”
“I can’t believe it’s been a year since I suffered a mini-stroke that led to my PFO diagnosis,” wrote the Rhode Skin founder.
She continued, “As it marks the 1 year mark of such a life changing event, I wanted to share all the information I’ve learned about PFO and share resources on how to donate.”

In her candid video, Haley recalled experiencing a “strange feeling” in her right arm and numbness in her fingertips before being rushed to the hospital.
The Vogue cover girl went on to describe how her superstar husband noticed something was wrong and repeatedly asked if she was okay.
When she tried to answer, Hailey revealed that she “couldn’t speak” but thought she must be “having a stroke.”
“The right side of my face started to droop, I couldn’t get a sentence out,” she said.
Justin quickly had someone call 911 and a paramedic came nearby to examine her as she struggled to form words when he asked if she knew her name and other basic questions.
The runway sensation also noted that her anxiety was “making everything worse,” but by the time she made it to the ER, she was “pretty much back to normal.”
Ultimately, she was held in the hospital overnight to be tested for the cause of her blood clot in her brain.
Luckily, she scored a 0 on the stroke checklist in the ER and her frightening symptoms stopped.

The causes: Hailey, who had a history of migraines, said doctors told her the combination of her new birth control, a recent battle with COVID, and traveling “from Paris and back in a very short time” likely caused the blood clot
Scary: The catwalk star called the ordeal “definitely one of the scariest moments I’ve ever experienced” when she originally shared it on her Instagram Story. Hailey explained that the small blood clot went away on its own, allowing her to make a full recovery within hours (she shared some candid pics of her X-ray and heart monitor on Instagram last year).
The signs: In her newly posted video, the Vogue cover girl went on to describe how her superstar husband Justin Bieber, 29, noticed something was wrong and repeatedly asked if she was okay. When she tried to answer, Hailey revealed that she “couldn’t speak” but thought she must be “having a stroke” (the couple pictured at OBB Studios this year).
The hospital confirmed that she had suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA), better known as a mini-stroke.

While medics couldn’t determine how the blood clot had traveled to her brain, they did discover the hole in her heart, which measured between 12 and 13 millimeters and was classified as “Grade 5” — the “highest possible grade.”
On her doctor’s recommendation, she had to have PFO closed and has since made a full recovery: “The biggest thing I feel is that I’m really relieved that we were able to figure it all out, that we were able to close it, that I’m going to be in the able to get out of this really scary situation and just live my life.
