Haiti received the second shipment of armored vehicles from Canada

The batch is the second of its kind to arrive in the Caribbean country since October to fight the violence responsible for more than 1,400 deaths and nearly a thousand kidnappings in 2022.

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, pointed out that the gangs’ actions are hampering the delivery of basic services and the delivery of humanitarian assistance, while ensuring the northern country will continue to monitor the security situation and consider other means to help the people of Haiti.

Last October, after a wait of several months, 18 of the vehicles bought by the Haitian government from the Canadian company INKAS arrived.

However, organizations and political figures denounced the damage to the devices weeks later after images of cars struggling in police operations near the Varreux terminal, emitting a large column of smoke, went viral.

The then President of the Senate, Joseph Lambert, called for explanations and the coordinator of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights, Pierre Espérance, assured that armored vehicles had problems with the braking system and that some areas were not well protected against bullets.
