Paris, June 22 (Prensa Latina) Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry spoke on the sidelines of the French summit with his Barbados counterpart Mia Mottly and Kenyan President William Ruto about the crisis in the Caribbean country.
“I met my Barbadian counterpart, Ms Mia Amor Mottley, at the For a New Global Financial Deal summit in Paris. “I want to thank you for your defense of Haiti in front of several countries and various international institutions,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter after the meeting.
He also announced that he had a “fruitful and very promising” meeting with Ruto, during which they discussed the possibility of assisting the Haitian security forces in various areas.
Henry is in Paris at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron to attend the Towards a New Global Fiscal Compact summit, which will bring together around 50 heads of state and government, development, private sector and civil society stakeholders to discuss in particular financing discuss for development, climate and global health.
In addition, the meeting aims to implement a sufficiently sound global financial architecture to allocate more resources and protect vulnerable countries from shocks in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations.
Aside from the meeting that will take place this Thursday and Friday, Henry has scheduled bilateral meetings with his counterparts to discuss the situation in the Caribbean country.
The day before, he met with African Union President Azali Assoumani, and the prime minister highlighted the need to strengthen ties between Haiti and its “African brothers” and the possible support of these countries in national law enforcement.
For his part, Assoumani assured the prime minister of the support and solidarity of the organization he heads, with which Henry had officially invited him to Port-au-Prince, according to a government office statement.
