PORT-AU-PRINCE, May 16th (RHC) – The two main political forces in Haiti continue today without reaching an agreement, despite two meetings to negotiate a possible dialogue.

The Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, and the leader of the Montana Accord, Magali Comeau Denis, met again the previous day for more than five hours with the aim of reaching a consensus that would allow talks between the two factions to resume.

Dialogue between these factions ground to a halt in late January after a large group of civil society elected Fritz Jean to lead a possible interim government, a decision rejected by Henry.

A source told local press that Montana Accord officials have asked the premier to delay decisions that put the nation at risk, which could include appointing the chief justices.

Henry and Denis also met in the middle of last week after several months of political stagnation and in the face of the country’s severe crisis of insecurity, confirmed Jacques Ted Sit-Dic, a member of the Montana Agreement Monitoring Office.

“We are in an untenable situation. In Montana they say you can go no further. You have to set responsibilities and move on,” he said.

As these political forces continue negotiations, the leader of the Pitit Dessalines party, Moïse Jean Charles, together with Edgard Leblanc of the Organization of the People in Struggle, began a “pilgrimage for forgiveness and reconciliation” aimed at bringing together different structured policies in order to to reach a dialogue.

This group has already held meetings with the Haitian Tet Kalé Party, the Konba Platform and the Haitian National Farmers’ Network.

Haiti has experienced a severe political, economic and social crisis in recent decades, aggravated in particular by the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse last July, which has deepened the institutional vacuum. (source: Latin Press).
