Bailey admitted she felt “pressure” to do the best job possible after taking on the role of Ariel in an upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Her casting prompted an outcry from some online critics who claimed she was unsuitable for the role due to her ethnicity.

In an interview with E! She told News, “I definitely think because I love this movie so much and have treasured it since I was a kid, I put a little bit of pressure on myself.

“Just because I want to convey all the feelings I saw when I was a little girl.”

Unfortunately, not everyone was keen on the beauty deserving the lead in the film.

A Twitter user wrote of the app: “Hey @disney, I actually think @rachelzegler is a good choice for the role of Snow White because she looks just like her. But @hallebailey is #NotMyAriel.’

The West Side Story star actress supported Halle, responding to the tweet with, “If you don’t support my girl Halle who is the perfect Ariel, don’t support any of us.”

The upcoming film, starring Jonah Hauer-King, Art Malik, Noma Dumezweni, Javier Bardem and Melissa McCarthy, is out in Spring 2023.

And the voice actress from the original The Little Mermaid, Jodi Benson, showed her support when she re-shared a cartoon image of two Ariels – one white and one black.
